Shark Finning: Another Loophole Closed

On September 30, 2020, Queensland fisheries minister Mark Furner announced that sharks harvested in Australia's East Coast Inshore Fin Fish Fishery (ECIFFF) must be brought back to land in one piece, with their fins naturally attached to their bodies. This requirement is acknowledged in most of the world as fundamental for management of sustainable fisheries and conservation of threatened shark species.

Dr, Leonardo Guida, a shark scientist at the Australian Marine Conservation Society noted, "It closes a loophole and stamps out the illegal and cruel act of shark finning.
