Shark Fishing Bans Partially Effective

Scientists from the University of Exeter, the Zoological Society of London and Oceanswell, a Sri Lankan NGO examined the effects of the longstanding ban on fishing for thresher sharks in Sri Lanka. While targeted fishing for the species had almost completely ended, continuing bycatch has a direct impact on this vulnerable species. Bycatch largely remain unreported, in part due to “mistrust and confusion” amongst fishers.
