Sylvia Earle, Ph.D., Honorary President

Sylvia is known around the world as one of the most eminent voices for shark and ocean conservation. She brings invaluable experience and perspective to our work in her role as our organization's Honorary President.

She is President and Chairman of Mission Blue / The Sylvia Earle Alliance. Sylvia is also a National Geographic Society Explorer in Residence, and is called, "Her Deepness" by both the New Yorker and the New York Times, a "Living Legend" by the Library of Congress, and first Hero for the Planet by Time Magazine. Sylvia has participated in numerous television productions and given scientific, technical, and general interest lectures in more than 60 countries. She is also the author of more than 125 publications concerning marine science and technology including the books Exploring the Deep Frontier, Sea Change (1995), Wild Ocean: America’s Parks Under the Sea (1999) and The Atlas of the Ocean (2001). Children’s books that she has written include Coral Reefs, Hello Fish, Sea Critters, and Dive!

Sylvia is an oceanographer, explorer, author and worldwide lecturer with experiences as a field research scientist, government official, and director for several corporate and non-profit organizations.
