Mike Tichenor, Regional Director - Texas

Mike joined the Shark Research Institute over a decade ago to further his concern over ocean conservation, and the plight of sharks in particular. His primary interest is the whale shark and has been involved in the photographing, tagging and DNA sampling. He has recently expanded his interest to other shark species to include the sand tiger, white and tiger sharks.

A retired PADI dive instructor, Mike has participated in research expeditions to the Bay Islands (Honduras), Mafia Island (Tanzania) and the Outer banks of North Carolina.

He holds a BS degree in Biology from San Diego State University with emphasis in cellular and marine biology, and an an MBA from Amberton University. In addition, he also served as a volunteer EMT and a Reserve Police officer.
