David Doubilet, Trustee

David is one of the world’s leading underwater photographers and has shot more than 60 stories for National Geographic magazine since 1972. In 2001 he was named a contributing photographer-in-residence of the National Geographic Society.

His undersea reporting has taken him to the Red Sea, Pearl Harbor, the South Pacific, and beyond. In addition to his many articles in National Geographic, David’s books include Light in the Sea: An Undersea Journey, Water Light Time: The Great Barrier Reef, Fish Face and Under Sea from A/Z, and he co-authored The Red Sea, Living Planet: Preserving the Edens of the Earth, and Wild Shores of Australia.

David’s honors include the prestigious Sara Prize, the Explorer's Club Lowell Thomas Award, and the Lennart Nilsson Award. He is an honorary fellow of the Royal Photographic Society of London and has been inducted into the International Diving Hall of Fame.
