Stan served as President of the Shark Research Institute for 17 years. A pioneer underwater film producer and photographer, he won five Emmy Awards. Stan was at the forefront of scuba diving since its inception, and was named as Legend of the Sea in 2007. He hosted SRI expeditions as well as dive tours to exotic destinations, to which he brought a legacy of almost a half century of diving and film making. Stan was in his early 90s when he decided it was time to “hang up his fins”, but he still writes and speaks to dive groups about the critical role of sharks in the marine ecosystem, and the necessity for their protection.
