DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT Debra Canabal earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Science with a concentration in neuroscience at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She did her thesis work on neuronal control of glucose homeostasis and how it is altered in Diabetes. Dean Fessler joined SRI in 1991, and began studying bull and Caribbean reef sharks off the Bahamas, and sandtiger sharks off North Carolina. In 1992, he relocated to San Diego to work with blue and mako sharks, and studied hammerhead sharks and whale sharks in the Sea of Cortez. In 1998, he moved to South Africa to study white sharks where he worked with other scientists, underwater photographers and documentary filmmakers.
