The Shark Research Institute was founded in 1991 by a few members of the famed Explorers Club who shared a passion for sharks, but also believed that to be effective, conservation must be based on solid scientific data.
We sponsor and conduct research on sharks, and use the data to obtain legal, enforceable protection for sharks worldwide.
We also create and stimulate public awareness about the plight of sharks, and empower other organizations and individuals to make a difference.
All of our programs are designed to result in protecting and saving sharks from extinction.
