AFUERA WITH DR. JENNIFER SCHMIDT
This is a unique opportunity to experience the Afuera (the great massing of whale sharks in the Caribbean) with one of the most celebrated whale shark researchers in the world: Dr. Jennifer Schmidt. She is taking a small group of divers to the Mexican Riviera to swim, free dive and snorkel with the giant sharks during the Afuera.
Afuera Objectives: This expedition is field oriented and will seek to answer the following
specific questions.
■ How much time do the sharks spend feeding at the surface.
■ What are the sea surface temperatures when whale sharks are present.
■ We will also gather photographs of individual whale sharks for the Ecocean database.

World-famous underwater photographer Amos Nachoum takes small groups of divers with him as he travels the world in search of big marine animals. www.biganimals.com. Although his dive trips are not scientific expeditions, he is one of the most astute animal behaviorists we’ve ever encountered. His ability to interact with these animals is the result of decades of experience working with them – and makes his dive trips very unique.

- All participants in expeditions (with the exception of Holbox expeditions) must be certified divers and at least 21 years old unless accompanied by a parent of legal guardian.
- Once a person has been accepted on an expedition, no refunds are given. We understand the unexpected may arise and advise all expedition participants to purchase travel insurance.
