Media Relations Office is the contact at Shark Research Institute (SRI) for news reporters, feature or freelance writers, television and film producers and researchers, or other science-related communicators interested in
obtaining information about SRI research and conservation. The office is also the contact for prints, slides, computer graphics, videotape and other visual images of SRI activities to illustrate stories, or for use in educational and commercial projects related to SRI.
Please note: The priority of this office is the news media. Due to limited staff and resources, we cannot provide visual images for school or personal projects.
The Media Relations Office offers the following services:
Media Requests – Office staff write and produce news releases and fact sheets, provide background materials and visual images for stories, help schedule interviews, and handle all aspects of media relations at SRI. We respond to requests for information from reporters and researchers working on science stories for local, national and international newspapers and magazines, wire services, television and radio programs, as well as for educational media. Information is distributed by the office through printed and electronic formats.
Visual Images and Licensing – The Media Relations Office is also responsible for licensing all SRI visual images, including but not limited to prints and slides, artwork, computer graphics and animation, videotape of SRI programs and personnel. We acquire images of research activities at sea and ashore and maintain print, slide and videotape libraries primarily for news stories, but also for educational and commercial activities, such as museum exhibits, science centers and CD-ROMs related to SRI research activities. Fees and other requirements for use of visual materials depend on use and are handled on a case-by-case basis.
